John, this was my first experience with franchises, and I decided that before spending upwards of $2-300,000 it would be wise to spend a few dollars getting some background information.
Your seminar (Who Else Wants To Be A Successful Franchisee) was both informative and interesting. You also delivered the information in such a way that this did not feel like a dry lecture, you kept my attention. Not only did I get a better understanding of what franchises are and how they work, I got the knowledge to ask better questions when talking with the franchisors. Being better informed made me feel like a better candidate for a franchisor.
I was not aware of all the legal issues that the franchisors had to comply with, and this information also helped me to understand some of the items in the franchise disclosure statement. Seeing the lawsuits listed against the franchisor would have really bothered me had I not known it was mandatory to list them.
I was skeptical of buying a franchise. . . I felt that what I pay for the initial fee and the ongoing royalties was not worth the expense for what you get. Your course, coupled with what I saw at the franchise expo, has changed my mind. I now see the value of all the support you get, in spite the fact that I consider myself to be a successful businessman.
